David Hyrum Hutchins

As some of you may know, David Hyrum (DH), our second son was blessed this past Sunday in church. As Gabe, our first son, was blessed by his grandfather, this was the first opportunity for me to give one of our children a name and blessing. The text of his blessing was as follows:

"David Hyrum Hutchins, by the power of the Melchizedek priesthood which we hold, we lay our hands on you to give you a name and a blessing. Your name will be, in this life and in the life to come, David Hyrum Hutchins. At this time, we give you a blessing that you will look to that name as a source of counsel and comfort in your dealings here on this earth. We bless you that like King David of the Old Testament, that you will develop a love of music and that you will find strength and wisdom to be a leader of men. We bless you like your uncle David, that you might have a good sense of humor and speak with wisdom and after careful consideration. We bless you as King Hiram of the Old Testament that you will be desirous to give generously to the building of the Lord’s kingdom and to seek to build your own earthly temple, this body, and to take care of it as he did the Lord’s temple. We bless you that like Hyrum Smith, the Prophet’s brother, that you will be loyal and that you will seek to develop the humility that marks those who are chosen followers of your elder brother Jesus Christ. We bless you as David Hyrum, Joseph’s last son, that you will demonstrate and experience a commitment to your Heavenly Father’s kingdom, even to death and that you will earnestly seek and desire to serve Him. We promise you that as you do these things, and as you seek to do the best that you can and to make the best decisions that you are able, that you will be granted a portion of His spirit that will serve to guide you home to Him. We love you and we offer this blessing, this prayer to our Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ, amen."
